School of the Built Environment

Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering professionals are major contributors to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a wide range of infrastructure construction projects such as bridges, tunnels, dams, ports, highways and large buildings. Society's demands for infrastructure in areas of energy, transportation and water supply and treatment, coupled with increasing public concern about environmental issues, ensure continuing challenges to Civil Engineering professionals at all levels to provide innovative, cost-effective and environmentally sensitive solutions.

Civil Engineering commercial managers are responsible for all aspects of the financial administration and settlement of civil engineering construction contracts. Their role includes the production and settlement of claims and the performance of advisory and administrative functions, requiring a sound knowledge of contractual matters.
