Leeds Met students celebrate their achievements during Graduation 2005 alongside a whole host of Honorary Awardees

MBE was installed as the new Chancellor of
Leeds Metropolitan University on Monday 11 July, the same day that
he presented an Honorary Doctorate of Sport Science to double-gold
medallist Dame
Kelly Holmes and bestow an Honorary Fellowship on
Tetley’s Super League and Carnegie World Club Challenge rugby
league champions, the Leeds
Rhinos.

Dame Kelly and the Leeds Rhinos follow in the footsteps of sporting heroes such as Brendan Foster MBE, Dame Mary Peters DBE and Ian McGeechan OBE, who each received honorary doctorates during the University’s graduation ceremonies in July 2004.
Honorary awardees
Dame Kelly Holmes, double-gold Olympic medallist, received an Honorary Doctorate of Sports Science from Leeds Metropolitan University on Monday 11 July at 10.30am.
The Leeds Rhinos, Tetley’s Super League and Carnegie World Club Challenge rugby league champions, received an Honorary Fellowship on Monday 11 July at 2.30pm.
World-class footballer and leading ambassador for sport Lucas Radebe received an Honorary Doctorate of Sport Science from Leeds Metropolitan University on Tuesday 12 July at 10.30am.
President Taizo Muta, Hiroshima University, collected an Honorary Fellowship on behalf on Hiroshima University on Tuesday 12 July at 10.30am.
Leading barrister in the English criminal justice system Courtenay Griffiths QC received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Leeds Metropolitan University on Tuesday 12 July at 2.30pm.
Rosabeth Moss Kanter, the Ernest L Arbuckle Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Leeds Metropolitan University on Tuesday 12 July at 5pm.
Successful businessman Peter Blackburn, who has made a major contribution to commerce regionally and nationally, received an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration, at Leeds Met on Tuesday 12 July at 5.00pm.
Former Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation Jim Coulter received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Leeds Metropolitan University on Wednesday 13 July at 10.30am.
Internationally renowned mountaineer Joe Simpson, who lives in Sheffield, received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Leeds Metropolitan University on Wednesday 13 July at 2.30pm.
Trevor Baylis, the internationally successful inventor, who was born and brought up in London, received an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering from Leeds Met on Thursday 14 July at 10.30am.
Naaz Coker, Chair of St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, and
Chair of the British Refugee Council since 1998 was awarded an
Honorary Doctorate of science at Leeds Met on Thursday 14 July
at 2.30pm.
