Leeds Met celebrated graduation in style
Leeds Met students celebrated their achievements during Graduation 2004 alongside a whole host of Honorary Doctors.
From the Right Honourable Estelle Morris MP, Minister of State in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to Ian McGeechan, Director of Rugby for Scottish Rugby Union, who was a student at Leeds Met Carnegie, the distinguished guests receiving awards have all made a valuable contribution to public life.

The Right Reverend David Konstant, Emeritus
Bishop of Leeds, who has made a long and distinguished contribution
to Catholic
education.
Friday 23 July, 10.30am
Ian McGeechan OBE, one of Leeds Met Carnegie’s
former students, won 32 caps for Scotland at rugby union and
went on
to coach the Scotland team. He also both played for and coached
the British Lions and took up the post of Director of Rugby of
the Scottish Rugby Union last year.

Sir Alan Wilson, Director-General for
Higher Education and retired Vice-Chancellor of the University
of Leeds, is to be honoured
for his contribution to Higher Education.

Mollie Temple, Principal of Bolton Institute,
which this year received permission to adopt a university title.
She previously
worked at Leeds Polytechnic and Leeds Met for two decades.
Tuesday 27 July, 2pm
Brendan Foster MBE, former long-distance
runner of world-class standing, who broke two world records and
held British records
for five distances. He now heads sports marketing agency Nova
International.
Tuesday 27 July, 5pm
Dame Mary Peters, DBE DL, former world-class
athlete who won a gold medal and world record in the pentathlon
at the Munich
Olympics in 1972 and became Deputy Lieutenant of Belfast earlier
this year.

Jonathan Sacks, who has been Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew
Congregations
of
the Commonwealth since September 1991.
