Computational Intelligence Group
Objective

Complex decision making based on data available in many forms requires computers to manifest a level of intelligence, so that mere information is processed as knowledge, so that words and actions are correctly recognised and interpreted, and so that computers adapt to evolving circumstances, and 'learn' from experience.

The computational intelligence research group (CIG) investigates and develops methods for addressing these challenges in real world scenarios and applications, on the web, in hypermedia systems, in active computer networks, in robotics, and in data analysis. Working collaboratively within the group, with other groups in the University, and with other agencies, companies and universities we research and develop methods specialising in neural networks, natural language processing, image and sound processing, and genetic programming.

The group also has 4 PhD students, funded by the university and externally, and group members publish their work widely in international conferences and journals.
