The UKAIS 2002 Conference on Information Systems

The School of Information Management at Leeds Metropolitan University played host to the 7th annual UK Academy for Information Systems conference. The conference that covered 3 days is the premiere event in the Information Systems calendar within the UK. This year the event had record attendance attracting over 100 leading academics and researchers from the UK and overseas.

Key information systems issues, covering important themes vital to the future of our academic, economic and social society were addressed.

Vice Chancellor Professor Leslie Wagner, and Barbara Howell, 2002 Conference Chair, welcomed the delegates.

A range of keynote speakers including Guy Fitzgerald, Professor of Information Systems, Brunel University, Professor Richard Lamming, Head of Research, University of Bath and Paul Wardle, Director of the European Office for Yorkshire and Humberside contributed to the event with lively and informative presentations.

A key feature of the conference was the Ph.D. Consortium where students were given the opportunity to meet fellow researchers, present their work and receive constructive feedback from respected members of the Information Systems Community.

Delegates attended the conference dinner at the Royal Armouries where a demonstration of 'Arms and Armour of the Samurai' impressed the group at the drinks receptions before dinner in the Wellington Suite.

The event was a huge success with Graham Orange and Barbara Howell, School of Information Management receiving many appreciative comments, including an email message from John Ward, UKAIS Board Member, "Congratulations on the conference! It was excellent - due largely to your efforts! Everything worked really well, both academically and socially. Personally, I enjoyed it more than any previous one".
