Why did you choose
Leeds Met?

A British education is well recognised world-wide so I knew I wanted to come to England to attain my Masters. When I started searching for the UK Universities, my friends (who had attended Leeds Met) highly recommended the University for having excellent teaching staff and outstanding facilities. The South Asia Office helped me further by assisting with the admission process.

Why did you apply for the scholarship and how did you feel when you won?

I had received my BA (Hons) in Hospitality from Leeds Met but had hoped to go further in my education and continue at Leeds Met. However, even though Leeds Met has some of the cheapest fees in the UK, I was still going to struggle to attain all the funds necessary to undertake the course. Then I found out about the scholarship and it was like a ray of light. I applied for the scholarship not daring to hope that I could win, but knowing it was the difference between staying and leaving.

For the essay I described my previous experience at Leeds Met and how I had worked so hard to overcome financial hardships in order to achieve an education. I went on to describe extra curricular and extra academic activities I had been involved in.

When I found out I had won the scholarship my first reaction was, ‘Thank you God!’ I was so happy and relieved at the same time, for I knew that without this financial award my studies in the UK would have come to an end.  I have had tremendous support and encouragement from my fiancé and between him and this scholarship I am now brimming with confidence and my motto is, ‘Yes! I can do it!’

I decided to wait to find out whether I had won the scholarship before telling my family, so that it could be a surprise. When I did tell me father he was so shocked and over the moon!

What do you think of Leeds/Leeds Met?

I did my undergraduate degree at Leeds Met and I really loved it here, which was another factor why I wished to stay on for my Masters. Leeds really feels like ‘home’ to me now and I am so comfortable here.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I am planning to join a finance company upon graduation. I am confident that with the knowledge gained in my studies at Leeds Met that will help me to develop my career in the real world.
