Erasmus Programme

Information For Outbound Students

University Erasmus Policy Statement
Leeds Met is committed to becoming a university with world-wide horizons where an international, multi-cultural ethos is pervasive throughout our scholarship, curriculum, volunteering and community engagement at home and overseas. Ongoing curriculum review requires Faculties across disciplines to extend opportunities for students to broaden their horizons and capabilities as global citizens. Greater participation in Erasmus activities will contribute significantly to achieving this vision.

The Erasmus programme is the opportunity for students to spend time at a European partner University as part of your programme of study at Leeds Met.

Erasmus agreements are at subject level, and where an agreement is held there will be an Erasmus
Co-ordinator in your Faculty. You can check to see if we have an agreement in your subject area by looking at the list of our Erasmus partners. If there is an agreement and you are interested in finding out more, please contact your Erasmus Co-ordinator.

You do not necessarily need language skills as many of our partner institutions teach in English. Plus why not try an EILCs course?

How do I obtain obtain the Erasmus grant?

Once you have had your place confirmed at your host institution, you will need to complete a Student Grant Form. These will be available via your Erasmus Co-ordinator. You will need to have this completed and signed by your Erasmus Co-ordinator, and it will then be sent to the Office for International Programmes.

The grant is paid in two parts. The grant varies from year to year, but during 2006/07 students each received €433 per month. Some countries also attract a one-off extra country allowance.

Your School or Faculty's role

Please contact your Erasmus Co-ordinator in your subject area to discuss your Erasmus placement. A list of these is supplied.

Your School/Faculty will look after your academic queries before and during your stay abroad and your module choices and credit transfers should be referred to them.

The Erasmus prize

Each year there is a competition for students to enter with prize money ranging up to £1000! You will need to enter a photo and/or essay and more details follow in October of each year. The deadline for entries is usually the end of October.

Erasmus student day

Each year there is usually the opportunity to attend a one day student conference. Typically one is held in Edinburgh and one in London - it's a great chance for incoming Erasmus students and returned Erasmus students to get together. These usually take place in November or December of each year.

"Spending a year in Bruxelles was the best thing I've ever done. By living on the continent it was easy to go travelling; I went to Germany , Luxembourg and all over Belgium . I met some amazing people. I am definitely going back to Bruxelles to visit and I am hoping to go there to live once I have finished my degree at Leeds Met."
