Kris Jain has joined the Resources Management Team to replace Samantha Wilkes. Kris is a Business Administration graduate, and will be dealing with most aspects of library materials acquisitions.
Marguerite Marlow has joined us from Health and Social Care, replacing Nick Reid as Administrator on the Campus Network team. Staff who have been chasing network connections may already have spoken to Marguerite.
Harriet Wood, who previously worked for the University of North London, has joined the Networked Systems team on a one-year contract to look after the electronic mail systems. Harriet is getting the backlog of work on these systems under control.
Gerald Lovett, who is well known to Faculty of Business staff, has received a well-deserved promotion to Principal Technician and will be looking after the PC installation team. He has moved to Calverley Street, and his place in Woodhouse Lane is being filled by Philip Cockcroft.
Neil Parkin has taken a temporary contract to work as Assistant Technician at Beckett Park until next summer.
Melanie Chapman has taken a three-month contract to support the Help Desk at Beckett Park to provide cover for the long-term sickness leave of both June Kitching and Julia Douglas. We wish both of these a speedy recovery.
Gary Taylor has left us to spend a year working for Mark Shields in Communications and External Relations as University Web Administrator.
Data Preparation Operator Alma McGuinness celebrated 25 years of service with the University in October. She was presented with a gift from her colleagues in Computing Services, and John Heap, Director of Learning Support Services, paid warm tribute to the work Alma has done for the unit over the years.
Mike Berrington has been promoted to the new post of Electronic Information Services Co-ordinator within Library Services. Electronic information sources are becoming increasingly important in library provision and it was felt that a senior member of library staff should have responsibility for overseeing their future development. Mike has relocated to Calverley Street Library and has also taken on responsibilities for library provision for Engineering courses.
Linda Urwin has resigned as job-share Tutor Librarian for law and Karen Croft, her job-share partner, has gone on maternity leave. Liz Waller has transferred from Calverley Street to Beckett Park to take on this responsibility. She will be working full-time in this capacity until Karen returns and then she will be job sharing with Karen.
Carolynn Rankin has been appointed as Tutor Librarian at Brunswick for Construction, Quantity Surveying, and Civil Engineering. She is starting in mid February.
Deborah Dance has joined us from Huddersfield Technical College as a Senior Library Assistant at Calverley Street, and Ruth Parr has been appointed to a permanent position of Senior Library Assistant at the same site. Phil Purdy is acting as a Senior Library Assistant until Jash Mistry returns from maternity leave.
Three new full-time Library Assistants have been appointed: Cynthia Mann (previously temporary) and Nicola Kirk at Calverley Street and Alexandra Nuttall at Beckett Park. Two part-time Library Assistants have also been appointed: Joan Schofield (who was already a Weekend Library Assistant with us) at Calverley Street and Louise Thornton at Beckett Park.
Anna Martin, MEDS loans counter assistant, has left for a total change of career, to work with adults with learning difficulties. Peter Tempest, Repro Operator, has also left for a change of career.
Howard Crawford, Video Producer, has retired after a long-term illness.
Esmond Wyatt started at the end of November 1995 as Print Production Manager.
