The Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Squad is currently using Carnegie as a training base in preparation for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

As well as conducting skill and strength-based sessions during their three-day camp, the team are able to draw upon the excellent facilities at the university. They have use of the Carnegie basketball courts, strength and conditioning room and the Carnegie Research Institute hall.
As well as having access to the sporting facilities, the European medal-winners are working with Ian Blackburn in the Faculty of Health, where physiotherapy students are providing extra support during their stay. While treating the athletes, the students are also gaining valuable experience and insight in high performance disability sport.

Commenting on the training camp, Head Coach Murray Treseder, who has previously coached the Australian team, said: “The facilities here are a great improvement on those we had in Birmingham, and the university has made us feel very welcome – we couldn’t ask for more.”
