Assessment, Learning & Teaching Reflections

Monday 6 February, 2006

I am delighted and privileged to be joining Leeds Met as an ALT Professor, for a day a week for the next three years. I’ve known Leeds Met for many years now, and already have worked here quite often, particularly in the last couple of years. I look forward to helping to make learning happen at Leeds Met, by offering workshops, learning lunches and individual consultancy on a variety of aspects of assessment, learning and teaching, to help colleagues make the ALT Strategy work well. Topics could include formative feedback, making learning happen in large and small group contexts, putting the learning into e-learning, and making assessment manageable at the same time as valid, transparent, reliable and authentic – the real challenge.

I will contribute straightforward practical suggestions and tips through ALT re-source, and will input to various programmes and Faculty development opportunities. I aim also to work with individuals, helping to find creative solutions to problems and would also like to contribute to enabling students to make the most of the learning opportunities Leeds Met offers them, by helping them become better at learning effectively, efficiently and enjoyably. I very much look forward to meeting and working with you all.

Phil Race
ALT Professor, Carnegie faculty
