The first to complete the 5km from Headingley Carnegie Stadium was Jorge Thomas in 15 minutes and 27 seconds. Next across was GB international Rory Fraser closely followed by Leeds Met staff member Ian Mitchell, then Leeds Met student Drew Graham. The first lady across the line was Michelle Ross-Cope with Nicky Archer following in second place and Sarah Graham in third position.

The next Leeds Met staff member to cross the line in ninth place was Ieuan Ellis with fellow staff members such as Jane Halloran, Stephen Willis, Greg Parker, Sarah Humphries, Jill Adam, Peter Khoo, Dan Bancroft, Ben Cotton and Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Lee coming in soon after. Athletic Union President, Emma Beith crossed the line with Director of University Sport, Malcolm Brown and Patricia Lee ran with Pete Rodgers.

Former Great Britain Rugby League captain Mike Gregory who is battling with Motor Neurone Disease crossed the line in 20 minutes and 38 seconds alongside his wife Erica and supporting friends and former teammates, including Ellery Hanley, Denis Betts, Steve Hampson, Terry O’Connor, Joe Lydon and Leeds Met's Dave Henderson.

Leeds Met has a fancy day at the race

Leeds Met won the University Challenge in the Carnegie Great Student Run. The challenge sees Leeds Met and University of Leeds teams compete against each other in the 5km run.

‘Champion Chip’ timing means that the organisers can add up all of the individual team members' times to name the overall team winner and for the second year running it was Leeds Met.

Leeds Met also gained honours in the fancy dress when Carnegie Scholar and GB international, Simon Farenden won the prize for best costume. Simon, who was dressed as a nurse, finished the race in 25 minutes and 26 seconds just behind fellow Carnegie Scholar and GB international Richard Buck.

Other runners joining in the spirit of the day included those taking part in the fun run, which was won by Sam Hornshaw. More highlights came with those who dressed up for the occasion and included The Leeds Met Shaolin Kung Fu team who were raising funds to compete in America and ran the course dressed as a Chinese Lion and pulling a drum. There was also a team from HR with a daffodil, raising money for Marie Curie Cancer research, a complete hen night with pink ribbons and paraphernalia, red devils and many more nurses and doctors.
