Largest Education Collaboration in Country Finalised

Leaders from two of the region’s largest education providers met in Bradford on 3 February 2005 to confirm a new collaboration that forms part of the largest provision of post-16 education in the country.

Bradford College and Leeds Metropolitan University

Bradford College and Leeds Metropolitan University formally agreed a partnership to provide educational opportunities for students in Bradford. Michele Sutton, Principal of Bradford College and Simon Lee, Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Met, signed the memorandum of understanding at the meeting held at Bradford City Football Club.

The initial collaboration in 2004/05, which confirmed Bradford College as an Associate College of Leeds Metropolitan University, involved the University taking responsibility for validating a number of the College degrees, such as Social Work, Business and Law.

The strategic relationship between Bradford College and Leeds Met was widened and deepened throughout 2004/05. In 2005/06 all new higher education students enrolling at Bradford College will be registered on awards of Leeds Met. Bradford College is the largest provider of higher education courses outside of the university sector in England, with approximately 4,000 students studying for university level qualifications on over 170 courses.

Some 41,000 students study at Leeds Met. When added to the more than 60,000 students at our first two strategic partners of Park Lane College in Leeds and Bradford College, this gives over 1000,000 learners in total in this collaboration providing post-16 education to the region.
