  • 2pm Green Hall Men’s Basketball v Sheffield

The last full week of the BUSA league programme this Term features a number of teams that are unbeaten and now leading their leagues (Women’s Badminton, Men’s Basketball, Men’s Football 2, Women’s Hockey 1, Netball 2, all 3 Mens’ Rugby Union teams, Women’s Rugby Union, Men’s Rugby League 1, Squash and Men’s Tennis 2). With a number of opposing teams cancelling and others on the rearrangement trail, fixtures are restricted to 10 at home & 13 away. The pick of the action this week is the ‘war of the roses’, varsity rivalry and trips up to the North east for Hockey.

The wheel of fortune seems to be turning in favour of Football as with good wins from last week the teams are still in contention to win their leagues. If the Men’s & Women’s 1st teams repeat their previous performance against Manchester points & goals are there for the taking. The women need another hat full of goals as they have 2 difficult fixtures next year against 2nd placed MMU Cheshire & League leaders Loughborough.

In Rugby Union all attention is focused on the Men’s 1st and 2nd teams as victory will allow them to celebrate winning their leagues. The 1st team play Lancaster at home, as the Women’s team have been given a walkover by Liverpool JM. The Men’s 2nd team have a varsity game away at Weetwood with a 15 – 0 already under their belt, the boys will be hoping to inflict another defeat on their rivals. The Men’s Rugby League 1st team will be very eager to play Sheffield Hallam as their last 2 fixtures have been cancelled.

In Hockey both the men’s and women’s 1st teams play Durham 2 away. Both teams can expect a tough fixture especially the Men as they drew at home to them. The other men’s teams have difficult fixtures against Newcastle 3 & 4 teams. The Women’s Hockey 2nd team play York St John and will be hoping that with better quality umpires they can defeat them.

In Netball the 1st team travel to Chester, a team annihilated by Sheffield Hallam 86 – 17 last week. This week they are struggling to get umpires and a team so the girls need to exploit this situation as this league maybe decided on goal difference. The 2nd team will play varsity rivals Leeds 3 and the 3rd team have a tough fixture against Sheffield Hallam 2. If the 3rd team could overcome this outfit this would do the 2nd team a big favour in the strife for League leadership.

In Squash the men play Durham and a repeat whitewash will seal victory in this league.

In the indoor ball sports both Men’s & Women’s Basketball should continue their winning ways against Sheffield & TASC. The men continue to run away with their league but for the women goal difference is likely to be the critical factor so they need to get plenty of baskets against TASC.
