Winter Wonderland Family Party
15/12/05

‘ Superb’, ‘fantastic’ and ‘a brilliant day’ were some of the words of praise from departing staff and families as the Winter Wonderland Family Party came to a close.
Over 200 staff and their partners and children filled the Metceno at Headingley campus with laughter, carols and festive family fun. Many entered into the spirit by coming in fancy dress – there were Christmas fairies, princesses, shepherds and action heroes – and for those who didn’t there was face-painting to transform them into wonderland characters.
A Treasure Trail gave families the opportunity to explore the campus further, something that Naomi Jackson, the mother of the trail winners, Lauren and Thomas both aged eight, thought was an excellent opportunity to show her children where she works.
There was also a magician on hand to wow the children with tricks and balloon modelling while their parents enjoyed a Christmas buffet. Other guests, including Darren Shaw, his wife Nicky and children Daniel 11, Lorna nine and Matthew five, all agreed that the day was lots of fun.
Cara McCosh, one of the staff development team organisers who danced her way through the day with help from her fairy wings, also thought the event was a great success providing ‘a day for all of Leeds Met to enjoy and bring their families together.’
Many were sad to see the day come to a close but it went out
with a bang as an array of fireworks illuminated the sky above
the James Graham Building – an impressive finale to a festive
fun-filled day.
