World-wide regional horizons
09/06/05

Leeds Met student Nathan Keen is a student with world-wide, regional horizons. The 36-year-old part-time MSc Facilities Management student, from Cambridge, has been working as the Facilities Manager for the British Antarctic Survey for the last six years.

Nathan, who is in charge of 21 members of staff and is responsible for engineering, heating accommodation and maintenance management as part of his job, is currently working on the Halley base - the most extreme and cold base on the floating ice shelf in the Antarctic. He joined Leeds Met a year ago to help develop his career and is studying the course on a two year, part-time, distance learning basis via the web.

“I chose Leeds Metropolitan University because it is the best fit for me and it gives me more opportunities and scope within my job.

“I enjoy the course and it is proving extremely useful. I’m very proud of finishing my assignments; this is the first time I’ve ever been to university and I haven’t studied since my O levels.”
