Met Equals |
Tuesday 2 September.

I am grateful to all the colleagues who introduced themselves yesterday as I wandered round each of our City, Beckett Park and Harrogate campuses. Many who had read Leeds Met Matters took the opportunity to offer views on different ways of improving the service we offer to students. There were some robust suggestions and several humorous ones - at least, I thought they were amusing. Those who had read this section on the website seemed equally to appreciate the invitation to highlight the best of current practice within Leeds Met.
Yesterday also saw the first of what will be weekly meetings between the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the University Secretary and myself. Today sees the first meeting of what is going to be called the Senior Executive Team (SET), formerly known as Executive Board, which is also now going to begin meeting weekly. These changes are not because I enjoy meetings. Rather, they are because we need first class, consistent communications, with as much transparency as possible. The term 'team' must not be mere rhetoric. As in sport, higher education depends on a balance between individuals taking responsibility for their own performance and playing as part of a team.
