Adult Learners' Week Award

23/05/05

Adult Learners Week

Yorkshire First Foundation's innovative project, ‘Addressing Gender Inequality through Action Research’ (AGITAR), has been highly commended in this year’s national Opening Doors to Adult Learners' Awards.

The AGITAR project offers off-campus higher educational opportunities to women across West and North Yorkshire to help improve their career prospects. The aim of the project is to improve the role of women in the workplace and carry out research to identify where and in what type of occupations gender segregation exists.

The results of this research will be used to modify the courses offered by Yorkshire First Training to ensure that women across the region have access to tailor-made, flexible, accredited training in transferable skills, which are equivalent to NVQ level 4.

Julie Harpin, Community Development Projects Manager at Yorkshire First Foundation, said: “This project offers people the opportunity to study for Higher Education qualifications in non-traditional, community-based learning environments. Participants can achieve the full 60-point University Certificate in Personal & Professional Skills, Management of Health & Social Care Organisations, Project Management, Business, eBusiness, or Management for Service Industries.”

Julie continued: “We’re delighted that the project has been highly commended in these awards. This recognition is an attribute to the hard work and dedication that has been put in to the project by the team at Yorkshire First Foundation.”

To share the findings of the AGITAR project research with the wider business community, Yorkshire First Training has arranged an event at the Novotel Hotel in Leeds on 24th June. For details please contact e.egdar@leedsmet.ac.uk or call 0113 283 1716.
