New Developments for Food Research Group at Leeds Met
25/11/05

A newly equipped microbiology laboratory dedicated to providing high level consultancy services to the region’s food and drink sector has been officially opened at Leeds Met.
Supported by grant funding from the European Regional Development
Fund, the Leeds Met Food Research Group, led by Dr Tony Parsons,
is collaborating with Yorkshire Forward's Food Technology Advisory
Service to provide these consultancy services to the industry.
Fifty companies have so far benefited, with projects on new product development, processing and quality assurance. A major contribution to this success is the expertise in food microbiological testing established in the School of Health and Human Sciences, lead by Dr Alan Edmondson, Principal Lecturer in Microbiology and Chris Boothby, Laboratory Manager.

Alex McWhirter, Head of Enterprise for Yorkshire Forward, who was present at the opening of the laboratory praised Leeds Met ‘for the unique combination of technical expertise now offered to the food and drink sector ensuring the region is at the forefront of technology.’
