Prize-winners lunch
17/11/05

Innovation North Faculty of Information and Technology hosted a prize-winners lunch for students at an event held at the Headingley Experience, Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Twenty-six students, family and friends gathered together and were joined by the university Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Lee, who presented the prize-winners with their certificates, and Dean of Innovation North Cath Orange, who said: “We are very proud of you, you have done so well and you should all be very pleased with yourselves.”

Amongst the guests who attended the event were graduates Donna Harper, Joanne Newsome and Carolyn Castelow. The three ladies joined Leeds Met six years ago when they enrolled on the Information Communications Management course on a part-time basis. The trio quickly became friends and supported each other throughout their course. Their support for one another paid off and in July this year the three ladies were each awarded with first class honours at their graduation ceremony.
Another long-time student of Leeds Met, David Cullen, was at the event to pick up two prizes received from his course. David, who joined the university in 1983 to study an HNC in electronics and came back again in the early 90s to study an HND in computing, returned to Leeds Met two years ago to enrol on the electrical systems engineering course part-time. David’s commitment to the course was rewarded when he received the IEE Benefactors prize and the Yorkshire Water prize at the prize-winners' lunch. He will be rewarded again in December when he picks up his degree certificate at the winter graduation ceremonies.
Thanking the university David said: “Leeds Met got me through everything.”
