Churches Regional Commission seminar at Leeds Met

01/10

The Churches Regional Commission (CRC) for Yorkshire and the Humber is to hold a seminar about financial exclusion and debt at Leeds Met’s Brunswick Terrace on Friday 8 October.

The event aims to promote a wider debate about the problems of access to affordable credit faced by poorer people in the region and the need for new strategies to overcome these problems. It will also examine potential solutions for the region, modern day poverty, access to banking and loans, and exploitation of the financially excluded.

The programme will be opened by Professor Simon Lee, Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Met and CRC Commissioner, along with John Packer, Bishop of Ripon and Leeds.

Speakers will include Dr Karl Dayson, University of Salford, on recent research commissioned by Leeds City Council, Sue Davenport, Chief Executive of Leeds City Credit Union and Eric Thompson, Chief Executive of the newly formed Moneyline Yorkshire, based in Sheffield.

A panel, involving Felicity Everiss, Regional Director, Government Office, Mark Harris, Leader of Leeds City Council, and Keith Wakefield, Leader of the Opposition Group on Leeds City Council, will also discuss debt issues and stories about financial exclusion of people from various parts of the region will be shared.
