Parliamentary Motion Congratulates Leeds Rhinos' Triumph
Prominent Parliamentarians from Yorkshire have tabled an Early Day Motion congratulating the Leeds Rhinos on winning the Tetley Super League Grand Final and praising the contribution of Leeds Metropolitan University’s Carnegie Faculty - where six of the Rhinos' players are currently studying.
The Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Metropolitan University, Professor Simon Lee said: "I am very grateful to Members of Parliament for recognising the achievements of Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Metropolitan University in this way.
"The Rhinos' victory in the Super League Grand Final was a superb achievement and Leeds Met is extremely proud to be associated with the team.
"The fact that six of the Rhinos' players currently study at the University indicates the important contribution that our Carnegie Sports facility is making to developing sporting excellence.
"Over the coming years we intend to build on this proven track record to ensure that Leeds Met’s Carnegie Faculty is the pre-eminent university sports faculty in the country.’
The six players who study at Leeds Metropolitan University Carnegie Faculty are: Matt Diskin, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Chris McKenna, Rob Burrow, Kevin Sinfield and Willie Poching.

That this House congratulates the Leeds Rhinos in winning the Super League Grand Final; believes that such success should be shared across the country and that Rugby League does not receive the recognition it deserves; notes that six of the players have studied at the Leeds Metropolitan University Carnegie Faculty and is proud to see the university making such a contribution to sport at the highest level; and considers that the work being undertaken by Leeds Met is important in developing champions of the future in all sports.
