Get a Step Ahead

A fun based one-day programme took place at Leeds Met’s Civic Quarter as part of a new project developed between the university and Stepping Stones, a programme set up by Leeds City Council to promote the educational achievements of young people in public care.
The event gave the young people and their carers an opportunity to take part in group work, hands on use of IT facilities and a campus trail. These activities provided a chance to meet new people including existing students and further helped to develop transferable skills giving the young people and their carers a fun and informative day.
The project has been developed to encourage the young people to participate in higher education activities with the aim of creating opportunities for the future, raising aspirations and increasing life chances.
