Get Ahead dissemination event
27/10/05

The Get Ahead team held a dissemination event this month on the lower concourse area, Civic Quarter. The aim of the event was to promote and inform colleagues about the team and the outreach work that they deliver.
The Get Ahead team are responsible for developing and delivering
a comprehensive programme of on and off-campus activities and
events, within the Aimhigher framework, to raise the aspirations
of young people, from primary through to post-16 education, and
their families throughout Yorkshire. This year over 15,000 young
people and their families have been participating in “Get
Ahead” initiatives. The programme seeks to raise the motivation,
aspiration and attainment of young people through events such
as summer schools, revision programmes, campus trails and focus
days.
This informal drop in session focused on the summer school programme and provided the opportunity to find out more about the eight events we delivered during June, July and August. Staff met with colleagues and student ambassadors - all of whom make a valuable input to the Get Ahead team events.
Access and Community Development Manager Inder Hunjan commented: “The whole idea of the dissemination event was to begin with this one, which concentrated on the summer schools, and then follow on with another two events focussing on progression modules and revision classes.
“Our main objective is to let university staff know what we do as a team and how they can support us in helping to make events and Get Ahead a success, and also how we can help them in return. We want to get staff involved in activities as it’s important for them to understand what we are about and why we’re here.”
